A circus tent is cylindrical upto a height of 3 m and conical above it. If the diameter of the base is 105 m and the slant height of the conical part is 53 m, find the total canvas used in making the tent.

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Given-

Height = h = 3 metres

Slant height = l = 53 metres

Radius = r =D/2= 105/2 =  52.5 metres

Cylindrical curve surface=2πrh

                                       =2*3*52.5*π=315π

curved area of cone=πrl=π*52.5*53=2782.5π

Total canvas to make tent=315π+2782.5π

                                      =3097.5*22/7=9735m
