I READ FROM BOOKS THAT WE SHOULD NOT USE ABLE BEFORE COULD.

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the given questions a part of the sentence is in bold. Below are given alternatives to the bold part at (A), (B), (C) and (D) which may improve the sentence. Choose the correct alternative.

Vishal (could be able to) work out these problems easily.

Options:
A)

should be able to

B)

must be able to

C)

can be able to

D)

No improvement

Solution:

Ans: (a)

"Able to" and "can" means the same, so we must not put them together else it will be superfluous.

"Must" shows hundred percent chances, hence (a) is the correct option.
