Question:
Construct a quadratic equation whose roots are reciprocals of the roots of the equation

2x2 + 7x + 5 = 0

Options:
A) 5x2 + 7x + 2 = 0
B) 5x2 + 7x + 3 = 0
C) 5x2+ 3x + 7 = 0
D) 7x2 + 3x + 5 = 0
Solution:

Ans: (a) To find a new quadratic equation, whose roots are reciprocals of the roots of

2x2 + 7x + 5 = 0, we have replace x by \(\cfrac{1}{x}\).

∴ The equation is = 2\(\left ( \cfrac {1}{x} \right )^2+7\left ( \cfrac {1}{x} \right )+5=0\)

\(\Rightarrow \cfrac{2}{x^2}+\cfrac{7}{x}+5=0 ⇒ 2 + 7x + 5x^2 = 0\)

\(∴ 5x^2+ 7x + 2 = 0\)
