Question:
The lateral surface area of a frustum of a right circular cone, if the area of its base is 16\(\pi\)cm2 and the diameter of the upper circular surface is 4 cm and slant height 6 cm, will be:
Options:
A) 30\(\pi\)cm2
B) 48\(\pi\)cm2
C) 36\(\pi\)cm2
D) 60\(\pi\)cm2
Solution:

Sol:  

\(\pi\)R2 = 16\(\pi\)

R = 4 cm

r = 2 cm (as, diameter of upper circular surface = 4 cm)

\(\therefore\) Lateral surface area of the given frustum = \(\pi\)(R + r) L

                                                                = \(\pi\)(4 + 2)6

                                                                = 36\(\pi\) cm2
