The explanation given here is not understandable.

Question:

4/5th of the voters in Amethi promised to vote for Rahul Gandhi and the rest promised to vote for Varun Gandhi. Of these voters, 10% of the voters who had promised to vote for Rahul Gandhi, did not vote on the election day, while 20% of the voters who had promised to vote for Varun Gandhi did not vote on the election day. What is the total no. of votes polled if Rahul Gandhi got 216 votes?

Options:
A)

 200

B)

 300

C)

 264

D)

 100

Solution:

 Votes got by Rahul Gandhi

=(100-10)% of  45    of total voters

=90% of  45    of total voters

= 910×45    of total voters

= 1825    of total voters

=216 voters

Now, Votes got by Varun Gandhi

=(100-20)% of ( 1-45   )th of the total voters

=80% of  15th    of total voters

= 45×15    of total voters

= 425    of total voters

= 21618×4   =48 voters

So, total no. of voters polled

=(216+48) votes=264 votes

Dear student,
Let total votes be x
Votes Rahul Gandhi got=(100-10)% of 4/5x
=(18/25)x=216
x=300
Votes Varun Gandhi got= (100-20)% of (1-4/5)x
=4/25*300=48
So, total number of votes polled=(216+48)
=264 votes
