Question:

Two men A and B walk from P to Q, a distance of 21 km at 3 and 4 km an hour respectively. B reaches Q, returns immediately and meets A at R. The distance from P to R is:

Options:
A) 18 km
B) 15 km
C) 17 km
D) 12 km
Solution:
Ans: (a)

let distance between Q and R be x 

Distance travelled by A is 21-x 
Distance travelled by B is 21+x 

time = distance/speed 

So, 
(21+x)/4 = (21-x)/3 
=> 3(21 + x) = 4(21-x) 
=> 63 + 3x = 84 - 4x 
=> 7x = 21 
=> x = 3 

So, PR = 18 km
