Question:
The allowance of an employee constitutes 165% of his basic pay. If he receives Rs 11925 as gross salary, then his basic pay is (in Rs.) :  
Options:
A) Rs 4000
B) Rs 5000
C) Rs 4500
D) Rs 5500
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Let the original salary be x

then,

x + 165% of x = 11925

x + 165 = 11925

      100

100x + 165x =11925

       100

265x =11925*100

x = 11925*100  

          265

x =Rs. 4500

Let the basic pay of the employee be ₹ x
Allowance = 165x/100
Gross salary = x + 165x/100 = 265x/100
According to given
265x/100 = 11925
x = (11925 × 100) /265 = 4500

Hence option C is correct
