Pls explain in simple manner

Question:

The price of rice increases by 20% and hence the expenditure of a family increases by 10%. Find out by what percent the consumption has been decreased?

Options:
A)

13 %

B)

23  %

C)

8.5%

D)

9%

Solution:

20% =  15

Price =  old5  : New6

Consumptionexpenditure     =  630 : 530

(When expenditure remains same)

but new exp is 10% more

i.e expenditure = 33

Hence, new consumption = x

6 × x = 33

X = 5.5

New consumption = 5.5

% Decrease =  Decrease in consumptionOriginal consumption    × 100

65.56   × 100 =  13 %

Let price of rice and quantity of rice produced = 100P and 100Q respectively,
Then, monthly bill = 10000PQ.
Now,
⇒ Price of rice = 120P (After 20% increase)
⇒ Monthly bill = 11000PQ (after 10% increase)
Then, consumption = 11000PQ/120P = 1100Q/12 = 91.67Q
Reduction in Consumption = (100Q - 91.67Q)/100Q x 100%
= 25/3% or 8 1/3%.
