Express train will stop for total 7 times...thus 6 HOURS + 7*3=381 min total..
now local train stop for 1 min after every 25 km..and it travels 25 km in 30 min..this means in 31 min it will travel 25 km....now in 381 min it will travel 25/31(381)=307.25km.

Question:

An express train travelled at an average speed of 100 kmph, stopping for 3 minutes after 75 km. A local train travelled at a speed of 50 kmph, stopping for 1 minute after every 25 km. If the trains began travelling at the same time, how many kilometers approximately did the local train travel in the time it took the express train to travel 600 km?

Options:
A)

350 km

B)

307.5 km

C)

360 km

D)

Dear Student,

Given answer is correct.

Other explanation-
Time for express train to travel 600 km =

600km/100kmh = 6 hours
600km/75 = 8 (7 stops + 1 for crossing the finish line)

total time = 6 hours 21 minutes

Distance traveled by local train in 6 hours 21 minutes:

300 km in 6 hours 12 minutes (6 hours of travel, 12 stops at 1 minute each)

so how far will it go in last 9 minutes?

9/60(50) = 9(50)/60 = 450/60 = 7.5

307.5 km in 6 hours 21 minutes

In 381 min the local train will stop for 12 times (u can divide 381 by 30 to get quotient) and thus it will utilise (381-12) I.e. 369 min for travel
And the distance covered in 369 min wil be 370.50 km.
