Question:

Hemant and Pankaj are competing in a 800 m race. Hemant gives Pankaj a lead of 100 m. Initially, Hemant runs at x times of Pankaj's speed (x is an integer > 1), but after crossing 600m, he slows down to a speed which is  1x      time of Pankaj's speed. Pankaj continues to run at his original speed. If both of them meet for the second time at a distance of 50m from finish line, then who wins and by what distance ?

Options:
A)

Pankaj, 37.5 m

B)

Hemant, 37.5 m

C)

Pankaj, 33.33 m

D)

Hemant, 33.33 m

Dear Student,

Please read the question and solution carefully, if two person start with same time their distance and speed may be different for same time interval.

Hemant lead 100 m means
hemant 800 and pankaj 700
before 50m they meet means Hemant at that time travel 750 and pankaj travel 650
But in question after 600 meter speed of hemant varies so given equation for hament-
600/X + 150/(1/x)
for pankaj
650/1
comparing both because time same for hemant and pankaj
600/X + 150/(1/x)= 650

Keep learning keep solving
Best wishes
