can anybody explain this used formula...??

Question:

The diagram below represents three circular garbage cans, each of diameter 2 m. The three cans are touching as shown. Find, in metres, the perimeter of the rope encompassing the three cans.

A)

2π + 6

B)

3π + 4

C)

4π + 6

D)

6π + 6

Break the whole figure in parts. In centre, u will get an equilateral triangle by joining the 3 centres. And you can break the surrounding figure in 3 rectangles of sides of length m, and 3 sectors of 120 degrees. Now length of rope will be
l= 3(2) + 3x(2*pi*r x (1/3))
= 6+2pi
