formula to find the avg speed is different ??? how come this method is used plz clarify

The ratio of the speeds of a car, a train and a bus is 5 : 9 : 4. The average speed of the car, the bus and the train is 72 kmph together. What is the average speed of the car and the train together?

Dear Student
If we look at the basic definition of average its
"Sum of quantities divided by the total number of quantities". So here we have three speed quantities 5x,9x,4x.
Sum = 18x. Number of Quantities=3. So average is 18x/3=6x. Given average is 72kmph. SO, 6x=72. Rest solution is ok.
