we just know that the side of one square exceeds another by four. how can one determine that figures has to be placed like that in order to calculate surface area. ? its nowhere mentioned in question

Question:

The side of a square exceeds the side of another square by cm and the sum of the areas of the two squares 400  cm2   Then find the total surface area of such figures which is formed by the two cube. Which have dimensions same as the square given above.
