we just know that the side of one square exceeds another by four. how can one determine that figures has to be placed like that in order to calculate surface area. ? its nowhere mentioned in question

The side of a square exceeds the side of another square by 4 cm and the sum of the areas of the two squares 400 ${c m}^{2}$ . Then find the total surface area of such figures which is formed by the two cube. Which have dimensions same as the square given above.
