i am not able to understand the use of summation

Question:

There are 15 children. Each of them has a different number of chocolates from 1 to 15. If all the children who have odd number of chocolates eat 1 chocolate, what is the percentage decrease in the average number of the chocolates?

Options:
A)

6.6%

B)

10%

C)

15%

D)

16.6%

Solution:

Ans: (a)

Total number of chocolates =  Σ15    = 120

Average =  12015   = 8 

After all the children who have odd number of chocolates eat 1 chocolate, total number of chocolates = 112

Average =  11215   = 7.47

Percenatge decrease in average =  0.538×100=6.6%
