please explain a little bit how the formula is used

The HCF and LCM of two numbers are 12 and 924 respectively. Then the number of such pairs is —
Options:
A) 0

Solution:

Let the numbers be 12a and 12b, where a and b are co-prime.

LCM = 12ab = 924

So, ab=77

Possible pairs = (1,77) and (7,11)

Hence, there two such pairs.Ans: (c)
