can it be considered that it "cannot be determined" in place of data insufficient?

Question:
The sum of the digits of a two digit number is 54 less than the number. What is the difference between the digits of that number?

B) 6
C) Data inadequate

Dear Student,
Yes it cannot be determined because the data given is not sufficient.

Let the two digit no be xy, so number = y + 10x
Given that sum of digits is 54 less than the number,
i.e ( y+10x) - ( x+y) = 54
9x = 54
x = 6

Now we don't have any condition to calculate y , therefore difference can't be calculated
