couldn't understand how..... (Question: 257137.0 )

but the method in detailed solution doesn't seem sound. please share step by step solution.

Question:

A canister has a mixture of wine and water in 3 : 2 and y litre of mixture is taken out from the canister and y litre of water is added to make the ratio 1 : 2 then find what part of mixture is taken out.
