Do correction as fast as u can

Question:

If (x – 2) is a factor of \(X^3\) + k\(X^2\) – 2x – 24 then what is the value of k?

Options:
A)

6

B)

5

C)

1

D)

-2

Solution:

Ans: (b)

\(X^3\) + k\(X^2\) – 2x – 24

here, x = 2

(2)3 + k(2)2 – 2 × 2 – 24 = 0

 8 + 4k – 4 – 24 = 0

 4k – 20 = 0

 k =  204    = 5
