solution given is correct but answer given in the key is wrong.

Question:

 A vertical post 15 feet high is broken at a certain height and its upper part, not completely separated, meets the ground at an angle of 30°. Find the height at which the post is broken:

15 3 2-3    feet

Solution:

 

Ans: (d) 

  

AB = Pole = 15 feet

AC = CD = Broken part of the pole

∵ AC = CD

∴ AB = BC + AC = BC+ CD

∴ ratio value of AB = Ratio value of (BC + CD) = 1 + 2 = 3

  

i.e. the required height = BC (ratio value = 1) = 5 feet.
