A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity (or relative density) of liquids; that is, the ratio of the density of the liquid to the density of water. A hydrometer is usually made of glass and consists of a cylindrical stem and a bulb weighted with mercury or lead shot to make it float upright.

Question:

Hydrometer analysis is used to determine:

Options:
A)

the density of soil suspension

B)

specific gravity of soil solids

Dear Avnish Sharma,
The question was about Hydrometer analysis, not about hydrometer instrument.
Hydrometer analysis is a widely used method of obtaining an estimate of the distribution of soil particle sizes from the No. 200 (0.075 mm) sieve to around 0.01 mm.
