sir plz provide another solution.

Question:

150 workers were engaged to finish a piece of work in certain number of days. Four workers dropped the second day, four workers dropped the third day and so on. It takes 8 more days to finish the work now. Find the number of days in which the work was completed ?

Options:
A)

17 days

B)

25 days

C)

24 days

D)

40 days

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Suppose the work is completed in x days. When the workers started dropping. Therefore, the number of workers who worked all the x days is the sum of x terms of an A.P with 1st term 150 and common difference –4 i.e [2. 150 + (x – 1) – 4]

= x(152 – 2x)

Had the workers not dropped, The work would have been finished in (x-8) days with 150 workers working on each day. 

Then, we get 

x(152 – 2x) = 150(x – 8)

2x2 – 2x – 1200 = 0

x2 – x – 600 = 0

 (x – 25 ) (x + 24) = 0

x = 25 days
