How we can say that ship is feminine according to me ship is neuter gender please clear it

Question:

DIRECTIONS: A part of the sentence is given in underline. Below are given alternatives to the underlined part at a), b) and c) which may improve the sentence. Choose the correct alternative. In case no improvement is needed your answer is d).

The ship sank and all his passengers were drowned.

Options:
A)

all her passengers

B)

all its passengers

C)

all their passengers

D)

No improvement

Solution:

Answer: Option (b).

Since the ship cannot be marked as a masculine or feminine gender, it would be considered as a neuter and hence, option (b) 'all its passengers' will be the correct option. 

However, this does not restrict the liberty of the author / writer to add his creativity, elsewhere.
