Don't you think that the words "the number of older eggs" sounds confusing? It might be given as "Previous quantity".

Question:

A person buys some eggs at the rate of ` 10 per dozen and  34   part of the number of older eggs buys at the rate of ` 12 per dozen. After selling all the eggs at the rate of   ` 13 per dozen he gets the profit of ` 30.  In the whole, he buys how many eggs?

Options:
A)

8 dozen

B)

9 dozen

C)

10 dozen

D)

None of these

Solution:

Let the number of eggs purchased = x dozen

 Total CP =  10x+34x×12    =  76x4    = 19x

Total SP =  x+34x   × 13 =  91x4

Profit =  91x4    – 19x = 30

9x – 76x = 120

15x – 120  x = 8 dozen
