from question it can be inferred that the son is taking twice time taken by father and son together and not their individual working capacity is compared?

Question:

A father can do a certain job in X hours. His son takes twice as long to do the job. Working together they can do job in 6 hours. How many hour does the father takes to do the job?

Solution:

Ans: (a)

Let father is A and son is B.

Than     A + B      6 days

Ratio of A and B = x : 2x

   Total work = 3x X 6 =18x

Then, father do in (18x/2x) = 9days.
