Ques itself is wrong and solution given is completely unacceptable

Question:

A person travels 106 km distance, partly by bicycle with a speed of 12 km/hr and rest by scooter with a speed of 35 km/hr. Had he travelled first distance with 35 km/hr on scooter and rest on bicycle with a speed of 12 km/hr, he would have covered 23 km more distance in the same time. Find the total time taken during journey?

Options:
A)

2 hours

B)

5 hours

C)

7 hours

D)

4 hours

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let time taken by bicycle = x hours

Time taken by scooter = y hours

12x + 35y = 106 …….. (i)

35x + 12y = 129 …….. (ii)

From (i) and (ii)

x = 3 hours , y = 2 hours

So, total time taken during journey = 5 hours
