please ek baar iss question ko phir se samjha de...samaj me nahi aaya please dear sir

Question:
Two boys swim towards each other at the same time from two ends of a swimming pool and meet at a distance of 18.3 m. from shallow end. After crossing each other, they reach opposite ends to rest 12 minutes each and then they return back to meet at a distance 14.9 m. from the deep end. What is the length of swimming pool?
Options:
A) 40 mtr.
B) 50 mtr.
C) 30 mtr.
D) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (d)


Let total distance be d, then

\(\cfrac{d-18.3}{18.3}=\cfrac{x}{y}\)  .......(i)

\(\cfrac{d+14.9}{2d-14.9}=\cfrac{y}{x}\) ........(ii)

From equ. (i) & (ii)

\(\cfrac{d-18.3}{18.3}=\) \(\cfrac{2d-14.9}{d+14.9}\Rightarrow\cfrac{d}{d-2\times 18.3}=\cfrac{3d}{d-2\times14.9}\)

\(\Rightarrow\) d- 29.8 = 3 (d-36.6) 

\(\Rightarrow\) d - 29.8 = 3d - 1098

\(\Rightarrow\) 2d = 80

\(\Rightarrow\) d = 40
