ABxAB = AC × AD (2nd line)
How does it come?

Question:

In the given figure, BD passes through centre O, AB = 12 and AC = 8. What is the radius of the circle? 

  

Options:
A)

65   

B)

85   

C)

35   

D)

45   

Solution:

  

Let CD = x

AB2 = AC × AD

(12)2 = 8 × (8 + x )

1448   = 8 + x

18 – 8 = x ⇒ x = 10

In ∆ABD,    BD2    = AD2 – AB2

= 182 – 122

= 30 × 6

BD    =  180    = 6 5   

So, radius of circle is 3 5    cm.
