Why Side of Regular Hexagon is 12/3

Question:
An equilateral triangle of side 12 cm has its corners cut off to form a regular hexagon. Area of this regular hexagon will be –  
Options:
A) 24 \(\sqrt{2}\) cm2
B) 24 \(\sqrt{3}\) cm2
C) 12 \(\sqrt{2}\) cm2
D) 12 \(\sqrt{3}\) cm2

consider, since ED = EF= DI= IH= GH= FG= a, its a regular hexagon but also the small triangles formed BEG, GHC, ADI must be equilateral triangle having the same length 'a'... so AB= BC= CA= 3a.. a= 12/3.
