Question:
In a school, the ratio of number of boys to number of girls is 2 : 5. If the average age of boys is (A – 5) years and average age of all the students is A years, then the average age of girls is –
Options:
A) (A + 1) years
B) (A + 2) years
C) (A – 1) years
D) (A – 2) years
Solution:
Ans: (b)

Let the number of boys = 2

and numbers of girls = 5

Average age of boys = A - 5 (given)

\(\therefore\)Total age of boys = (A - 5) 2

= 2A - 10

Now, Average age of all students = A

\(\therefore\)Total age of all students = 7A

Now, 7A = 2A - 10 + Total age of girls.

7A - 2A + 10 = Total age of girls.

5A + 10 = Total age of girls

\(\cfrac{5A+10}{5}\) = Average age of girls

\(\Rightarrow\) A + 2 = Average age of girls
