Question:

If the breadth, length and perimeter of a rectangle are in geometric progression, what is the ratio of the length to the breadth?

Options:
A)

2 : 1

B)

3 : 1

C)

5 : 2

D)

None of these

Solution:

Ans: (d) Given, breadth (B), length (L) and perimeter [2(L + B)] are in GP

Therefore, L/B = 2(L + B)/L = 2 + 2B/L

Let L/B = a

   a = 2 + 2/a

a= 2a + 2

a– 2 a  – 2 = 0

a = (2 +  12   ) /2 =  3    + 1
