alligation method plzz

Question:

The quantity of water that should be added to reduce 18 ml lotion containing 50% alcohol to the lotion containing 30% alcohol is–

Options:
A) 6 ml
B) 8 ml
C) 10 ml
D) 12 ml
Solution:
Ans: (d) Alcohol in \(\left ( \cfrac {50}{100} × 18 \right )\) ml

= 9 ml

\(\therefore\) The amount of water = (18 – 9) ml = 9ml

Let x ml of water be added to it, then

\(\cfrac{9}{18 + x}\)  × 100 = 30

18 + x = \(\cfrac{900}{30}\)

x  = 30 – 18

x = 12 ml
