OB=(20*8)/28

Question:
In the given figure, two squares of sides 8 cm and 20 cm are given. What is the area (in cm2) of the shaded part ?

Options:
A) 120/7
B) 160/7
C) 180/7
D) 240/13
Solution:
Ans. (b)

From the square OB∥QR,

∆ AOB ~ ∆ AQR

\(\frac{AB}{AR} = \frac{OB}{QR}\)

\(\frac{8}{28} = \frac{OB}{20} \) [QR=20, PQRB is a Square]

OB =\(\frac{20×8}{28} = \frac{40}{7}\)

Area of AOB \(= \frac{1}{2} × AB × OB = \frac{1}{2} × 8 × \frac{40}{7} = \frac{160}{7} \)
