C should be correct. And sentence also seems wrong (Question: 200768.2 )

Sentence is also wrong I guess. You cannot use present continuous and simple past in one statement

Options:
A) frowning; rejecting

Solution:
Ans:(b) Only (B) can be the correct answer, as the presence of 'but' expresses the need of contrast between the two parts of the sentence.
