Is negative used with BUT FOR? I think know..

Question:
DIRECTIONS: A sentence/ a part of the sentence is underlined. Below are given alternatives to the underlined part at (A), (B), (C) which may improve the sentence. Choose the correct alternative. In case no improvement is needed, your answer is (D). 
But for your time of helping, we could not have accomplished our goal in such a small time span.
Options:
A) But for your timely help
B) Because of your timely helping 
C) In spite of the timely help by you 
D) No improvement 
Solution:
Ans: (a) 'But for your timely help' should replace the underlined part. 'But for .....' phrase means "without".
