Did not understand the calculation.

Kindly explain.

Question:

The length of the second train is 25% more than that of the first train and their speeds are 86 km/hr. and 50 km/hr. respectively. They are runing in the same

direction and the train with higher speed, crosses the train of lower speed in 36 seconds. What is the length of each train?

Options:
A) 160 mtr.,  200 mtr.
B) 100 mtr., 125 mtr.
C) 200 mtr., 250 mtr.
D) 100 mtr., 150 mtr.
Solution:
Ans: (a) Let the length of the first train be ā€˜l’ meter, then the length of the second train be 1.25 l meter.

Equivalent speed = 36 km/hr = 10 m/sec.

Total length = 2.25 l meter

A.T.Q.,

\(\cfrac{2.25\ l}{10}=36\Rightarrow l=\cfrac{360}{2.25}=160\) meter.

Thus, the length of the second train = 200 meter.

Dear Student,
l=36000/225 = 160 meter = first train's length
Second train's length = 1.25 l = 1.25 * 160 = 200 meter
