BY SOLVING YOU WILL GET B WHEN REPRESENT IN MIXED FRACTION

Question:
To pass an examination 40% marks are required. Peter obtains 10% marks less then the pass marks and Thomas obtains 11.11% marks less than Peter. What percentage less then the sum of peter's and Thomas's marks should Robert obtain to pass the exam?
Options:
A) 40%
B) \(41\cfrac{3}{17}\)%
C) 35%
D) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (b)Let the maximum marks be x.

\(\therefore\) passing marks =  0.4

                          = 0.4 x

Peter marks = 0.9 × 0.4x

                  = 0.36 x

Thomas marks = \(\cfrac{8}{9}\) × 0.36 x

                       = 0.32 x

Sum of peter and thomas marks = 0.32 x + 0.36x

                                                = 0.68 x

\(\therefore\) Required = \(\cfrac{68x -40x}{68x} \ \ \ × 100 \% \)

=

\(41\cfrac{3}{17}\)%
