Question:

In a rectangle, if the length is increased by 3 metres and breadth is decreased by 4 meters, the area of the rectangle is reduced by 67 sq metres. If length is reduced by 1 metre and breadth is increased 4 metres, the area is increased by 89 sq. cm. Find the perimeter of the rectangle.

Options:
A)

84 m

B)

76 m

C)

94 m

D)

88 m

Solution:

Ans: (c)

Let length = x m

Breadth = y m

Area = xy

xy – [(x + 3)(y – 4)] = 67

4x – 3y = 55         … (i)

(x – 1) (y + 4) – xy = 89

4x – y = 93         … (ii)

After solving equation (i) and (ii),

x = 28, y = 19

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(28 + 19) = 94 m
