Any shortcut method is available for this type of problem,

Question:

If a certain number of two digits is divided by the sum of its digits, then the quotient is 6 and the remainder is 3. If the digits are reversed and the resulting number is divided by the sum of the digits, the quotient is 4 and the remainder is 9. The sum of the digits  of the number is:

Options:
A) 4
B) 6
C) 9
D) 12
Solution:
Ans: (d)

Let the number be 10x + y.

A.T.Q.,

10x + y = (x + y) 6 + 3

4x – 5y = 3                         ..........(i)

A.T.Q.,

10y + x = (x + y) × 4 + 9

6y – 3x = 9                          ..........(ii)

On solving equ. (i) & (ii), we get :

x = 7 & y = 5  \(\Rightarrow\) x + y = 12
