ANSWER SHOULD BE B

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In Questions below, you have brief passages with questions following each passage. Read the passages carefully and choose the most appropriate answer to the questions out of the four alternatives.

Before the dawn of civilization man overpowered the weak with his physical might. In the struggle for existence, it was the survival of the fittest. He had no qualms of conscience while killing his prey. So, the prehistoric man was almost barbaric and lived solely on the strength of his muscle power. Gradually man became aware of his intellectual ability and learned to turn things in his favour using his grey cells. He realized his superiority over all the living beings around him due to his ability to rationalize and think. He began applying his intellect to deal with grim situations. As man progressed and civilized himself, it became apparent to him that wielding of weapons could not solve problems. He realized that weapons could kill a man but could not bring about a change of heart or values.

Down through the ages, with the development of communications and the invention of the written word, man kept a record of worthwhile sayings and writings. The Sumerians developed the pictograph writing some five thousand years ago on stone walls and caves. The ancient Egyptians recorded their glories on the walls of tombs and hieroglyphics or picture-writing. In the Middle Ages, monks used to spend their lives copying manuscripts. But writing was ‘tedious and writing materials were scarce. In the middle of the 15 century, Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press with movable types cast in moulds which made publication easy and cheap. This allowed people to access the written word and they got inspired by the works of great writers. Though, the Bible is around 3,000 years old, it continues to be the world’s bestseller. The oeuvres of Shakespeare are still popular today as they were 350 years ago, when he wrote them.
