Question:

Rs. 5887 is divided between Shyam and Ram such that Shyam’s share at the end of 9 year is equal to Ram’s share at the end of 11 years, compounded annually at the rate of 5%. Find the share of Shyam.

Solution:

Let Shyam’s share in starting = S

Let Ram’s share in starting = R

Rate of interest = 5%

So, when their amounts are equal

$\begin{matrix} S {(1 + \frac{5}{100})}^{9} = R {(1 + \frac{5}{100})}^{11} \\ \frac{S}{R} = {(1 + \frac{1}{20})}^{2} = \frac{441}{400} \end{matrix}$

So Shyam’s share = $\frac{441}{841} \times 5887 = 3087$
