The passive sentence is as follows
A fresh batch of eggs WAS collected by the farmer's wife
Now this sentence is indicating an action committed in the past,
Was their indicates the action done in past
Thus the active sentence which can be inferred out of the given passive sentence is
The farmer's wife had collected the fresh batch of eggs
In the given active sentence
we have to specifically mention the action committed in past with "had"
In option(d)
The farmer's wife collected a fresh batch of eggs
This can also mean that she just collected eggs like 2 seconds ago
or is in the process of collecting the eggs
Thus option (d) is kind of slightly confusing
