plz provide short solutions..

Question:

In covering a distance of 30 km, Vijay takes 2 hours more than Suresh. If Vijay doubles his speed, then he would take 1 hour less than Suresh. Vijay’s speed (in km/hr) is —

Options:
A)

7.5

B)

5

C)

6

D)

6.5

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let the speed of Vijay = x kmph

 speed of Suresh = y kmph

Distance = 30 km

time = \(\frac{Distance}{Speed}\)

hence ; \(\frac{30}{x} - \frac{30}{y}= 2\)-----eq (1)

\(\frac{30}{y}-\frac{30}{2x}\)= 1----eq(2)

Adding eq 1 and 2

\(\frac{30}{x}-\frac{30}{2x}\)=3

\(\frac{30}{2x}\) =3

\(\frac{15}{x}\)= 3

x = 5 kmph
