The cross multiply method, can I know the logic behind it, thanks.

Question:
The population of a town is 60,000. If the males increase by 5% per annum and the total population becomes 65,000 next year. Then find the % increase in the number of females in the town, if ratio of males to females is 1:5, before population increase.
Options:
A) 7%
B) 5%
C) 8%
D) 9%
Solution:

The population of a town before increase = 60,000.

The population of a town after increase = 65,000.

So, % increase =\(\cfrac{65-60}{60}\)  ×100% = 8\(\cfrac{1}{3}\) %

By using Allegation,

\(\cfrac{x-\cfrac{25}{3}}{\cfrac{10}{3}} =\cfrac{1}{5} \)

X= 9%
