a answer

Question:

If 2a = b, then the pair of equations ax + by = 2a2 - 3b2, x + 2y = 2a - 6b possess:

Options:
A) no solution
B) only one solution
C) only two solution
D) an infinite number of solution
Solution:
Ans: (d) ax + by = 2a2 - 3b2              ......... (i)

x + 2y = 2a - 6b                           ......... (ii)

multiplying (ii) by a and subtracting from (i)

y (b - 2a) = 6ab - 3b2 = 3b (2a - b)

or y.0 = 3b.0     (∵ 2a = b)
