Its correct.
Singular "difficulty" is correct. If I heard "difficulties," I would assume that the person had multiple problems. For example, if someone has difficulties reading, maybe she has vision problems AND doesn't know the alphabet, etc.
Singular: Refers to the general idea of difficulty, ….
Plural: Refers to a collection of problems, ….
