Question:
A and B together have five times the sum what B and C together have, while A, B and C together have Rs. 40 more than the sum that A has. If B has five times the sum than that of C, the sum A has, is approximately –
Options:
A) Rs. 162
B) Rs. 164
C) Rs. 167
D) Rs. 169
Solution:
Ans: (c)

A  + B = 5 (B + C)

A + B + C = A + 40         [Given]

            B  = 5C               [Given]

       A + B = 5 (B + C)     [Given]

     A + 5C = 5 (B +C)

     A + 5C = 5(6C)

             A = 30C – 5C

             A = 25 C

  A + B + C = A + 40

A + 5C + C = A + 40

      A + 6C = A + 40

 A + 6× \(\cfrac{A}{25}\) = A + 40

            6A = 1000

              A = Rs. 166.6 (167 approx.)
