A person, on his dead bed, keeps half his property for his wife and divides the rest equally among his three sons, Ravi, Raj and Kartik. Some year later Ravi dies leaving half his property his widow and half to his brothers. Raj and Kartik sharing equally. When Raj makes his will, he keeps half his property for his widow and the rest he bequeaths to his younger brother Kartik when Kartik dies some years later, he keeps half his property for his widow and the remaining for his mother, the mother now has Rs. 1525000. What was the worth of total property.

Let total property of the person = Rs. x

His wife gets = Rs. $\frac{x}{2}$

Ravi gets = Rs. $(\frac{x}{2}) \times \frac{1}{3} = \frac{1}{6}$

Raj gets = Rs. $(\frac{x}{2}) \times \frac{1}{3} = \frac{1}{6}$

Kartik gets = Rs. $(\frac{x}{2}) \times \frac{1}{3} = \frac{1}{6}$

After Ravi’s death:

This widow gets = Rs. $\frac{x}{12}$

Raj gets = Rs. $\frac{x}{24}$

Kartik gets = Rs. $\frac{x}{24}$

According to Raj’s will,

his wife gets = $R s . (\frac{x}{24} + \frac{x}{6}) \times \frac{1}{2} = \frac{5 x}{48}$

Kartik gets = $R s . (\frac{x}{24} + \frac{x}{6}) \times \frac{1}{2} = \frac{5 x}{48}$

After Kartik’s death

his wife gets = $R s . (\frac{5 x}{48} + \frac{x}{6}) \times \frac{1}{2}$

his mother gets = $R s . (\frac{5 x}{48} + \frac{x}{6})$ = $\frac{13 x}{96}$

Total mother’s Money = 1525000

$\frac{x}{2} + \frac{13}{96} \times = 1525000$

$\frac{61 x}{16} = 1525000$

x = 2400000 Rs.
