     The weights of 4 boxes are 70, 100, 20 and 40 kilograms. Which of the following cannot be the total weight, in kilograms, of any combination of these boxes? 

Options:
A)

     230

B)

     190

C)

     160

D)

     200

Solution:

     Total maximum weight of 4 boxes = 70 + 100 + 20 + 40 = 230 kg

1) 230 kg, possible if all four boxes are used

2) 190 kg, possible if all boxes except box of weight 40 kg are used

3) 160 kg possible if all boxes except box of weight 70 kg are used

4) 200kg, not possible as we do not have a box of 30 kg weight to remove.

So, option ‘d’ is correct.
