Question:
One man, 3 women and 4 boys can do a piece of work in 96 hours, 2 men and 8 boys can do it in 80 hours, 2 men and 3 women can do it in 120 hours. Then 5 men and 12 boys can do complete work in –
Options:
A) 39\(\cfrac{7}{11}\) hours
B)  42\(\cfrac{7}{11}\)  hours
C)  43\(\cfrac{7}{11}\) hours
D) 44\(\cfrac{7}{11}\) hours
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Let the total units of work = 480 units

1M + 3W + 4B can do units of work = 5 units

2M + 8B can do units of work = 6 units

So, 1M + 4B can do units of work = 3 units

So, 3W can do units of work = 5 – 3 = 2 units

2M + 3W can do units of work = 4 units

So, 2M can do units of work = 4 – 2 = 2 units

So, 5M can do units of work = 2/2× 5 = 5 units

So, 8B can do units of work = 6 – 2 = 4 units

So, 12B can do units of work = 4/8× 12 = 6 units

Work done by 5M + 12B can do units of work

= 5 + 6 = 11 units

Time required by 5M + 12B to do the work

= \(\cfrac{480}{11}\) = 43 \(\cfrac{7}{11}\) days
