Kinetic energy is related to mass motion but this is always relative to some reference, everything is moving respect to something and that energy might be transformed in some other type if that energy is cancelled someway, becoming potencial (or deformation/heat if crashed into reference)

Kinetic energy is defined as the energy an object displays or possesses because of some kind of motion or action. Potential energy, on the other hand, is the energy an object possesses or displays by virtue of its state of rest.

Kinetic energy is defined as the energy possessed by an object due to it motion (velocity or movement etc).

Now consider water in a dam. It has potential energy because it has a potential to flow down.

(Potential energy is defined as the energy possessed by an object due to its position or state of strain)

Now the dam is opened, the water flows down coverting potential energy into kinetic energy due to its motion.

I will tell you another example for kinetic energy.

Imagine a moving block of wood and it is colliding with a block of wood which is at rest resulting in displacement in the direction of force.hence we conclude that the moving block of wood had energy because it caused displacement.
